Setting Up Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 in a Workgroup

There are three main steps to complete this rather difficult task:

– Setup Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 to accept connections
– Setup Remote Server Management on desktop machine
– Setup Hyper-V Management on desktop machine

– Hyper-V 2016; Shielded VMs using TPM and BitLocker enabled guests. Linux secure boot. PowerShell Direct. Hot add memory and nice.
System Center 2016; support Windows 10. Allow direct manage of Windows 10 devices with MDM. Allow ConfigMgr on virtual machines and in-cloud.

Microsoft has just released the upgrade course to Server 2012.

The usual suspects are there with Windows PowerShell 3.0 in there, DirectAccess and Hyper-V. If you know your Server 2008 this one should be too much of a stretch. So it is about time you download a copy of 2012 and start configuring.

Windows Server 2008 R2, Server Virtualization Certification

Work need to keep their Gold Partner status. They asked me to sit the TS: Windows Server 2008 R2, Server Virtualization exam. I did and passed it just before Christmas. We do not use Hyper-V so much at work. Mostly used when studying for exams and Tech-Ed session. Add another one to the list.
