Manually install a KMS Client then Activate to a KMS Host

  1. Ensure the KMS Host is online and has the KMS appropiate license installed.
  2. Login to the machine.
  3. From a elevated command prompt type: slmgr /ipk “product_key
  4. Verify the product key installs.
  5. Activate the license by running: slmgr /ato

By default, the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems use KMS for activation. In volume installations, the setup key is installed by default, which makes the system a KMS client. If you are converting a computer from a KMS host, MAK, or retail edition of Windows to a KMS client, install the applicable setup key (GVLK) using slmgr /ipk “setup key”.
